There are only two days you will love a houseboat... The day you buy it and the day you sell it!

Re: Buying a houseboat
It’s more romantic than living in Wolverhampton in a high rise social housing flat.

As with all homes it’s always location, location, location.

Clearly the maintenance costs and shit issues might be worth considering. I don’t think I’d like the gentle motion.

Either way it is neither a cheap way to live nor is it as romantic and flexible as people believe.

Avoid.

Another bonus is the total lack of space.

Good point about the shit.

There’s thousands of boats in london now and hardly anywhere to pump out?

I guess the fish are well fed and probably existing on a mainly vegan diet.

And Noah ha ha ha ha...

"This chemical toilet is a Saniflow 33, now this little babe can cope with anything, and I mean anything. Earlier on I put in a pound of mashed up Dundee cake, let's take a look...not a trace! Peace of mind I'm sure, especially if you have elderly relatives on board."

apart from the smell, the maintenance, the rats, the noise, the petty theft, the neighbours who are either hippies/on the run/ wierdos, pumping your own shit out every day , I think they are a great idea.

Re: Buying a houseboat
Are you thinking of living in London on it?

You may find it impossible or else extremely expensive to get a mooring.

insurance, canal and river trust license (not cheap and getting more costly). Will have to be paid for.

How will you heat it in the winter given that the slightest wisp of Smoke from the chimney will get a hoard of wannabe Greta Thunbergs screaming at you that your killing their children with your toxic air, especially in London.

Re: Buying a houseboat
They are barges. As far as I understand it a houseboat is a house, on a boat. There are some stunning ones on the Isle of Wight. You get house boats all over the place, even in Tory areas. So, all good on that score.
